Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon

Mr Salman Mirza was appointed as Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon at the Birmingham and Midland Eye Centre, City Hospital in June 2008. He is a comprehensively trained ophthalmologist with special interest in diseases of retina. He received his specialist training in the West Midlands Ophthalmology rotation followed by two fellowships in macula & medical retinal diseases in the Birmingham & Midland Eye Centre & Wolverhampton Eye Infirmary.

Mr Mirza offers consultations on a wide range of ophthalmic conditions from cataract surgery to problems such as age related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinal vein occlusions and other retinal vascular / inflammatory conditions. He offers treatments which include intravitreal injections of Lucentis / Avastin / Ozurdex and performs posterior segment argon laser, photodymanic therapy and Yag laser treatments. Mr Mirza is well versed in modern retinal imaging techniques such as Optical Coherence Tomography, Fundus Fluorescein Angiography and Indocyanine Angiography. He also organises the regional postgraduate teaching in medical retina including grand rounds & symposia and has research interests in macular & retinal vascular disorders.
