Professor Bloom is a Consultant Ophthalmologist at The Western Eye Hospital, where he is Lead Clinician / Service Director and runs the glaucoma and cataract services. He also runs these services at the Hillingdon Hospital (Uxbridge).

  • Philip Bloom has special interests in Glaucoma & Cataract and is Honorary Professor of Ophthalmology at Middlesex University.
  • He qualified in 1984 (Bristol University) and trained in Bristol, The Western Eye Hospital & Moorfields Eye Hospital.
  • He is the immediate Past President of the Royal Society of Medicine Ophthalmology Section, a UKISCRS council member and an IGA Trustee.
  • Research interests include glaucoma laser treatment, neuro-protection, cataract surgical simulation and spectacle independence after cataract surgery.
  • He has published over 80 peer-reviewed scientific research and teaching papers.
  • He performs glaucoma & cataract teaching in Odisha (India) for Second Sight (UK Registered Charity 1080445).
  • He is married to a London GP, has 2 teenage children (one of each) and dotes on Flapjack, a Border Terrier.
  • He is a keen photographer and an avid cinema-goer.
