Biography

Mr Francesco Stringa is an experienced cataract and glaucoma surgeon having performed over 3000 cataract and glaucoma procedures. He is currently a substantive Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon specialised in glaucoma at University Hospital Southampton and Lymington New Forest Hospital.

In 2016, after completing his core training in Ophthalmology at Manchester Royal Eye Hospital, he carried out a Research Fellowship at the Manchester Vision Regeneration Lab working on vision rehabilitation projects in severely sight impaired patients. Subsequently, he undertook two fellowships in glaucoma at Nottingham University Hospital and St Thomas’ Hospital in London, to further specialise in the most novel treatments and surgical techniques for glaucoma.

Improving treatment outcomes in glaucoma procedures is crucial in his practice and therefore, Mr Stringa is actively involved in the improvement of the glaucoma service with the evaluation and acquisition of the most recent surgical devices. As an expert in the evaluation of outcomes following glaucoma surgery, he is also invited as a speaker in national and international conferences.

In addition to his passion for ophthalmic surgery, Mr Stringa is active in clinical research. He regularly publishes articles on high impact scientific journals such as the British Journal of Ophthalmology and present research projects at national international meetings. He also loves teaching and mentoring fellows and trainees.
