If you’re one of the many thousands of people preparing to head to Glastonbury festival this month, you’re probably making a list of all the essentials you need to take. But you might not have considered what to take with you to look after your eye health. Here’s a few things to pop in the backpack before setting off:
If you’re a hay fever sufferer, you’ll know that red, itchy eyes can be irritating at the best of times. Make sure you pack a good supply of antihistamines to lessen the symptoms.
2. Lots of water!
Make sure you drink plenty of water throughout the day – dehydration can lead to dry, sore and irritated eyes.
3. A good pair of sunglasses
Exposure to UV over time can increase your risk of developing cataracts
or macular degeneration
so always protect your eyes from the sun with sunglasses showing the CE mark.
4. Contact lens kit
If you wear them, make sure you remember to take out your contact lenses before you go to bed. Keeping them in overnight can increase the risk of infection, so pack all of your normal kit and stick to the routine!
5. Face wipes and hand sanitiser
OK, so you probably already have these on your list but you may not realise that rubbing your eyes with dirty hands may transfer germs and risk causing corneal abrasions. And a clean face is vital for eye hygiene, so make sure you have plenty of face wipes and hand sanitiser – and use them!
