Guildford Surgeon Named Top 100 Global Eye Health Expert

8 November 2019

Mr Dan Lindfield from Optegra Eye Hospital Surrey is celebrated as one of the top 100 global ophthalmic surgeons in this year’s industry magazine, The Ophthalmologist.

One of only 14 UK surgeons to be named in The Power List 2018, which maps the most influential people in the world of ophthalmology, Mr Lindfield is recognised for his prominent work as a glaucoma specialist and also his work in complex cataract surgery.

Mr Lindfield says: “This is a tremendous honour.  My work is full of highlights – it’s exciting to trial new diagnostic and therapeutic technology, but I find seeing my patients every day the most rewarding. Gathering data and trying to evolve surgical techniques challenges me but it’s the translation to day-to-day practice that I most enjoy.”

Optegra Managing Director, Rory Passmore, commented: “We are delighted that Mr Lindfield has received this worthy recognition.  At Optegra we pride ourselves in the quality and skill of the surgeons who work with us to deliver exceptional patient care and the people in and around Guildford are very fortunate to have access to a surgeon such as Mr Lindfield.”

According to one nominator for the Power List, “Dan is a caring, personable ophthalmologist with a very approachable style to patient care; a strong believer in patient education and involvement. Since coming to Guildford, he has built a formidable local glaucoma service with excellent treatment and training opportunities.”

Mr Lindfield specialises in treatment of both cataracts and glaucoma.  Glaucoma is a group of eye conditions in which the optic nerve (the main nerve that takes visual information from the eye to the brain) becomes damaged. This can be due to a rise in intra-ocular pressure (IOP) but is not always the case. If diagnosed early, treatment can prevent further damage to vision. However, if left untreated, this damage (neuropathy) can ultimately cause blindness.

He is also a glaucoma surgical trainer and has received several national and international awards.

Optegra Eye Hospital Surrey, found on Guildford’s Surrey Research Park, treats all vision correction and medical eye conditions in five star facilities, with leading eye surgeons.  Find out more at Optegra or by calling 0808 159 9580.
