Oraya Therapy is a treatment for wet AMD.
What does Oraya Therapy involve?
Oraya Therapy is a breakthrough treatment for wet AMD to maintain or improve vision while reducing the number and frequency of anti-VEGF injections. This non-invasive, outpatient procedure is intended as a one-time therapy and is fast and comfortable.
Step 1: Your in-depth consultation
Following a detailed assessment, your Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon will discuss the best course of treatment for you. The same consultant will carry out your procedure and your checks at follow-up appointments.
Step 2: During the Oraya Therapy procedure
Oraya Therapy in the UK uses the IRay® radiotherapy system to deliver highly focused low-energy x-rays to the macula to inhibit and prevent the choroidal neovascularisation (this means the growth of abnormal blood vessels) associated with wet AMD, as well as reduce inflammation and scarring. No surgical intervention is required, and the entire procedure takes about 20 minutes to complete.
Step 3: Rest and recovery
Afterwards, you will be taken to our recovery area to rest before returning home.
Step 4: Your aftercare
Following your Oraya Therapy, you will be provided with an emergency contact number so that if you do experience any unexpected symptoms, you can contact us. You can request a six or twelve month review if you wish.
Am I suitable?
Each patient will be assessed in depth individually and advised on their suitability for Oraya Therapy.
