Local eye hospital celebrates 5,000th patient

Salisbury lady Mrs Frances Howorth is celebrating being the 5,000th surgical patient at a local specialist eye hospital; and met guest speaker, the local sportsman Roger Black MBE at a celebratory event.

Joined by 60 local ophthalmic professionals – from opticians and optometrists to GPs with an interest in ophthalmology – the guests at Optegra Solent Eye Hospital enjoyed an evening with sportsman and Olympian Roger Black.

Hospital Director, Sue Coleman, from Optegra Solent Eye Hospital hosted the event at the hospital. She said:
“It was also a great pleasure to welcome back Mrs Frances Howorth, who is our 5,000th patient. She recently had ClarivuTM refractive lens exchange and we are delighted about this celebration.”

In fact Mrs Howorth enjoyed two celebrations in one week –being announced as the 5000th patient at Optegra Solent Eye Hospital, and also receiving an award for ‘Photographer of the Year’ from The British Guild of Travel Writers.

Guest speaker Roger Black, the former Olympian, and winner of 15 major championship medals, gave a motivational talk on the importance of team work, whilst staff at Optegra Solent Eye Hospital, based in Whiteley, highlighted the hospital group’s work and gave guided tours.

People travelled from as far afield as Salisbury and Andover and Somerset.

Sue Coleman continued:
“We are dedicated to building and strengthening our relationships with our professional partners and this event is one of many opportunities to do just that. It was an inspiration to have an engaging speaker who captured the importance of ‘being the best you can be’. At Optegra Solent Eye Hospital we too are dedicated to providing the best eye treatments by the best surgeons.

“Our Business Development Manager Julieanne Page has worked closely with our professional partners and we were very pleased that they could join us on this special occasion.”

Optegra Solent Eye Hospital is based in Whiteley and offers cataract removal, refractive lens exchange (Clarivu™), treatment for AMD, vitreoretinal and oculoplastics procedures and laser eye surgery all carried out in specialist facilities dedicated only to eyes.
