Three employees at Optegra’s Yorkshire Eye Hospital have received a transforming operation, which has corrected their eye sight and banished the need for glasses, after a combined 75 years of wearing specs!

Clarivu™, a painless 20 minute procedure where the natural lens of the eye is replaced permanently with a technically advanced artificial lens, giving clear vision for both reading and distance, has given the three Yorkshire patients freedom from wearing glasses or contact lenses.

Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon, James Ball, at Optegra’s Yorkshire Eye Hospital, based in Bradford and Leeds City Centre, explains how he operated on three of his own staff in recent months:

“With so many patients having Clarivu to correct their sight, I had no idea how much influence this was having on my own staff! Each with different eye sight difficulties, I was delighted to have the opportunity to help three of my own colleagues. Clarivu is a fantastic procedure as it can eliminate the need for glasses, can fix long and short sightedness and also prevent future cataracts.”

Angela West, age 49, from Shipley in West Yorkshire, had worn glasses from her mid twenties, having always had problems with her long distance vision. She had to wear varifocal glasses at all times. “I found it so frustrating that even wearing glasses I was struggling to read food labels, text messages and the time on my watch. I even resorted to using a magnifying glass!

“I had Clarivu and am now completely free of glasses and my sight is better than when I was wearing them! It means I can work at my computer easily, and even enjoy my Zumba classes without worrying about putting glasses on and off.”

Richard Ledger, age 56, from Leeds was keen to stop wearing heavy glasses that constantly slipped down his nose. He invested in the lightest frames available and even this did not help – and so he decided to have Clarivu. He can now see clearly and can enjoy choosing non prescription, designer sun glasses.

Jackie Crabtree, age 49, also from Leeds could never find her glasses when she needed them. She says: “I’d have them all over the house and always on and off my head, which was one of the reasons why I stopped hobbies like embroidery and cross-stitch.”

She describes the Clarivu operations as “no worse than having your eyes tested – it just didn’t feel like having an operation. There were no stitches, no wounds and not even any pain.”

Jackie loves her new life without glasses and has now gone on to knit three jumpers!
