Optegra, an international premium provider of eye surgery, continues its international expansion with the acquisition of Memira’s German operations including clinics in Munich and Stuttgart. Memira is the leading provider of refractive and intraocular eye surgery in Scandinavia and will in 2013 focus on further expansion in the Nordics including Finland.
The acquisition follows quickly from Optegra’s December acquisition of Lexum which operates hospitals across Central Europe and brings the total number of Optegra Hospitals to 23 across UK, Germany, Czech Republic and Poland.
Optegra will seek to invest further in its new operations and in particular to develop the market of presbyopia and Clarivu™, Optegra’s proprietary brand of vision correction for the over 50s.
Optegra provides high quality general ophthalmology services across a range of disciplines including Cataract, Retinal, Corneal, Glaucoma and Orbito-Facial. The company aims to provide the best facilities and latest in technology to attract leading surgeons which in turn produces the best clinical outcomes for patients. Furthermore the company partners with industry and academia through its not-for-profit arm Optegra Eye Sciences to bring new innovations to market.
After the acquisition, Optegra Germany has clinics in Berlin, Munich, Stuttgart, Magdeburg, Aachen and Krefeld. Optegra Germany Managing Director, Matthias Pertzsch, commented: “This is an important step in our German expansion and we hope to continue to expand our national distribution further in 2013. We are actively looking for opportunities for partnership and acquisition of well established, high-end existing ophthalmology practices. Combining the strength of professional medical competence with the structure, management expertise and marketing investment of Optegra will lead to lasting models of partnership between physicians and Optegra which ultimately benefit German patients.”
