Sports enthusiast has his eye on the ball again

Ben Turner enjoying life after eye surgeryBen Turner, 30, from Birmingham (pictured left), is a keen musician and sports player and has had laser eye surgery to take away the daily hassle of glasses, contacts and goggles.

Ben, who works in marketing, leads a very active lifestyle.  As well as running approximately 30 miles a week, he enjoys squash, badminton, swimming and football, and became dependent on contact lenses to play.

However the daily contact lenses became quite dry on his eyes. He was also aware of constantly touching his eyes to put contacts in and out and that they became uncomfortable over longer periods of time.

Concern about the health of his eyes deteriorating and the day to day hassle – sometimes falling asleep in contacts, sometimes putting two contacts in one eye – led him to choose laser eye surgery. He opted to have LASIK laser treatment at Optegra Birmingham Eye Hospital.

Ben says: “I am quite pragmatic, so when I realized that contacts were no longer working well for me I was keen to look into options. I really do not miss all the hassle of glasses and contacts! Even a day at work involved wearing glasses at first as I start early, then changing to contacts mid morning so I was not in lenses for too long – I really do not miss all that!

“I feel like I have made this investment and now, at 30, my eyes are back to how they should be! I’ve got years to reap the benefit now!”

Wearing glasses or contact lenses has been a daily occurrence since Ben was just eight years old due to his short sightedness and astigmastism, where the shape of the cornea affects vision. Following surgery with Optegra’s ophthalmic expert Mr Subramaniam, Ben says:

“I am very happy with results and the whole hospital experience. One of the main things about Optegra is that they are extremely realistic with what they hope to achieve and very clearly communicate all the facts.  My only problem was that for two weeks before my consultation I could not wear contacts – I was making all sorts of errors on the football pitch!

“Mr Subramaniam certainly seemed to take a personal interest in my wellbeing and the results are great – I have better than 20:20 vision!”

Ben, whose wife is expecting their first child, was also impressed with the financial offering, taking up the opportunity for interest free credit to spread payment over a longer period of time.

Laser eye surgery is one of the most commonly performed elective procedures in the world today.   Various types of laser eye surgery are available at Optegra Birmingham Eye Hospital, and an initial consultation will allow a surgeon to give advice on the most suitable vision correction surgery for you.
