Optegra™ acquires Augentis GmbH as a platform for expansion into Germany.
Optegra today announced its acquisition of Augentis, a German provider of ophthalmic services through four high quality clinics headquartered in Berlin.
Both companies provide high quality eye care treatments including laser refractive surgery, cataract removal, retinal disease therapy and general eye medical conditions. A shared philosophy of delivering the best patient experience and the best clinical outcomes means that the merger of the two businesses makes perfect sense to bring economies of scale and best practise across the enlarged group.
Optegra’s business is based on a specialist care model in which the latest and broadest range of equipment and specially designed facilities are provided in one location offering the best care for patients. The model is attractive for surgeons who want to deliver the best clinical outcomes and Optegra has been able to attract disproportionately high surgeon populations to its hospitals in the UK with over 70 surgeons practicing at its 5 hospitals in Surrey, Solent, Birmingham, Manchester and Yorkshire.
Optegra is owned by Moonray Healthcare; a private company which specialises in buy and build, long term, healthcare investments.
Moonray Healthcare’s CEO, Tim Clover believes that Optegra’s model is relevant in international markets and is funding a roll-out programme to include both Germany and China. “Augentis is a great business with real similarities to Optegra and a team which has delivered amazing results in the last two years. We think that together we will be stronger and at the same time offer a platform to accelerate growth in Germany” said Mr Clover.
Augentis was founded by an ophthalmic surgeon Dr Febrer-Bowen who will assume the role of Managing Director for Optegra Germany and continue in his clinical and commercial career within the group.
