Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon at Southampton University Hospitals Trust since 2005. Parwez is also Clinical Lead for Ophthalmology, as well as, Senior Lecturer in Ophthalmology at University of Southampton. He qualified in Medicine from Aberdeen University and trained in Ophthalmology in Aberdeen, Nottingham & the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, Miami, USA. He sub-specialises in Cornea, Cataract & External Eye Disease.
As a senior consultant with a research interest in cornea, Parwez has pioneered a variety of treatment and surgical techniques for corneal diseases, which are now in regular clinical practice worldwide. He has expertise in non-laser based refractive correction, routine and complex cataract surgery. He is an international expert on corneal imaging, corneal transplantation, endothelial transplantation and corneal infections.
Parwez is an Associate Editor for the scientific journal ‘Eye’ and is the ‘Programmes and Seminar Secretary’ for Royal College of Ophthalmologists. He also leads a research group at University of Southampton, which is investigating the new treatments for corneal inflammatory disease.
