Patient Chaperone

At Optegra, we are committed to providing a safe, respectful, and supportive environment for every patient. That’s why we offer a chaperone service at all of our hospitals, available whenever you need it.

What is a Chaperone service?

A chaperone is a specially trained member of our team who can be present during your consultation or examination to offer reassurance, support, and protection for both you and our clinical staff. Having a chaperone is completely your choice, and you can request one at any stage of your appointment.

Their role is to:

  • Help you feel at ease during any examination or procedure, answering questions and providing a friendly, supportive presence.

  • Ensure professional boundaries are maintained at all times, safeguarding your comfort and dignity.

  • Offer emotional reassurance if you are feeling nervous, anxious, or vulnerable, so you can focus on your care with confidence.

Our chaperones are there to make sure you feel safe, respected, and supported throughout your visit to Optegra.

Available at every Optegra hospital

  • Hassle-free – it’s part of the care we provide for every patient.
  • Available at all locations – no matter which of our hospitals you visit, the service is there for you.
  • Your choice – you can request a chaperone at any stage of your appointment, whether during a consultation, examination, or treatment.

Bringing a friend or family member

You are very welcome to bring someone you trust, such as a friend, family member, or carer, to accompany you to your appointments at Optegra. Having a familiar face by your side can make your visit feel more comfortable and relaxed, particularly if you are feeling nervous about your consultation or treatment.

Your companion is welcome to join you in the waiting area and, where appropriate, be present during your consultation or examination. They can help you remember important information, ask questions on your behalf, and provide emotional reassurance throughout your visit. This can be combined with the support of one of our professional chaperones, ensuring you feel fully supported, informed, and at ease every step of the way.

How to request a chaperone

You can:

  • Let us know when booking your appointment
  • Tell our reception team on arrival
  • Ask your clinician at any point during your visit

We will arrange for a trained chaperone to be present. If one is not immediately available, we will rearrange the examination for a convenient time when they can be present – unless it would affect your health to delay.

Our promise to you

Patients are reassured that Optegra staff understand their responsibility not to divulge confidential information.

Book your appointment today or request an NHS referral and rest assured that your care will always be delivered with the highest standards of professionalism, safety, and respect.
