Cataract treatment

Optegra is proud to offer a range of treatment options to people who are affected by cataracts.

Our ophthalmic consultants tailor our leading-edge procedures to fit your needs and achieve the outcome you hoped for. This is just one of the reasons we’re the UK’s most trusted eye hospital group as rated by patients.

Our cataract surgery simply removes your cataract to help restore your vision; while our refractive cataract surgery removes your cataract and includes a lens replacement procedure with a multifocal lens. By introducing a multifocal lens in one procedure, your dependence on glasses can be reduced or eradicated entirely.
Whichever treatment you choose, you can count on our consultant-led experience, transparent pricing, flexible finance options, and dedicated eye hospitals to help you see every day in high definition.

Cataract surgery

This is performed as a day case under local anaesthetic. The cloudy lens (cataract) is quickly removed and replaced with a synthetic intraocular lens (IOL) designed to last a lifetime.  This provides good distance vision but usually means you will still be reliant on reading glasses after the procedure.

Cataract refractive surgery

During cataract surgery, the eye’s natural lens is replaced, typically with a monofocal lens. This provides good distance vision but usually means you will still be reliant on reading glasses after the procedure.
If you wear glasses for reading, distance or near vision, or wear bifocal, varifocal or multifocal contact lenses, cataract refractive surgery may be the answer you’re looking for.
Cataract refractive surgery uses RLE (Refractive Lens Exchange) which is a proven and permanent lens replacement procedure that could correct long or short-sightedness. This surgery could help you eliminate or reduce your dependence on glasses at the same time as removing your cataracts.
This proven procedure has been performed thousands of times and typically takes just 20 minutes per eye. We offer lens replacement with femtosecond laser technology.
The main benefits of refractive cataract surgery are:

  • Reduce your dependence on glasses
  • An advanced lens specifically chosen by your surgeon
  • One single price – Refractive cataract surgery means you pay one single price for the consultation, procedure, lenses and aftercare – no matter what your prescription.
