Mr Steven Naylor is an experienced Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon specialising in cataract and lens surgery. As NHS Cataract Lead Consultant at Optegra, he plays a key role in ensuring high quality, accessible cataract care for patients across our hospitals and clinics.

Mr Naylor has substantial experience in both NHS and private practice, having completed more than 5,000 ophthalmic procedures overall, including over 3,500 cataract operations.

He trained at the University of Leeds (MBChB, 2008) and completed advanced subspecialty training in corneal and external eye disease and refractive surgery at St James’s University Teaching Hospital in Leeds. He also holds the Certificate in Laser and Refractive Surgery (CertLRS) from The Royal College of Ophthalmologists.

Alongside his cataract work, Mr Naylor is highly experienced in vision correction and refractive lens surgery. He will be leading the expansion of Optegra’s vision correction services at our Newcastle eye hospital. This will give patients across the North East access to advanced options including lens replacement, implantable lenses and customised refractive treatments aimed at reducing or removing the need for glasses.

Optegra Eye Hospital Newcastle already provides NHS cataract surgery, and Mr Naylor will continue to support this service while also growing our private vision correction offering in the region.

Known for his calm, reassuring approach and commitment to patient centred care, Mr Naylor supports patients throughout their treatment journey, providing clear guidance from the first consultation through to aftercare.
