We’re delighted to announce that we’re holding a special open evening to showcase the pioneering SMILE laser treatment at our state-of-the-art eye hospital in Harley Street, London.
This free event is open to all patients who are interested in having laser eye surgery. And there is absolutely no obligation for you to book a treatment. It is simply an informative event to give you the opportunity to view our facilities and hear all about the revolutionary SMILE laser eye surgery procedure – from one of the leading ophthalmic surgeons in the UK.
Taking place on Monday 9th May at 6.30pm, the open evening will be held at our central London eye hospital, which is housed behind attractive Victorian and Edwardian facades – just off Harley Street. And inside, you’ll see that our modern and innovative, first-class facilities are just as impressive.
Hosted by leading Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon, Mr James Ball, this event is a must if you’re considering laser eye surgery.
What is SMILE?
SMILE is a third-generation laser eye surgery treatment that is breaking new ground in the world of eye surgery and laser vision correction. It stands for Refractive Lenticule Extraction, Small Incision Lenticule Extraction. And it is a far less invasive, keyhole - bladeless laser treatment.
SMILE combines all the benefits of LASIK and PRK. But it is a much faster treatment - and you can expect your vision to be 80% improved directly after surgery and 100% improved within 10 days! Recovery time is faster, too – and you are less likely to suffer from dry eyes after the procedure.
In addition, SMILE is able to correct higher degrees of astigmatism and short-sightedness, and if you have been deemed unsuitable for LASIK due to thin corneas; you are more likely to be suitable to SMILE laser eye surgery.
James Ball: London’s leading SMILE surgeon
We’re really excited to have one of our top Consultant eye surgeons, Mr James Ball MA(Cantab) MB BChir FRCOphth CertLRS, presenting this event, so you can hear all about the benefits of SMILE laser eye surgery directly from the horse’s mouth, as it were. And there will be lots of opportunities for you to put your questions about the procedure to James and the rest of our team.
After qualifying in medicine at Cambridge University and undertaking specialist fellowship training at the Lions Eye Institute in Australia and the Moorfield’s Eye Hospital in London, James worked at Europe’s largest teaching hospital providing corneal and refractive eye surgery services on behalf of the NHS. He now works full time for Optegra – specialising in corneal, refractive and cataract surgery procedures, dividing his time between our Yorkshire eye hospital and the Harley Street clinic in central London. He has now performed over 5000 laser eye surgery operations and was one of the first surgeons in the UK to perform the advanced SMILE laser eye surgery procedure.
