We are delighted to announce that one of Optegra’s world-class consultants, Dan Lindfield
, has been awarded a place on The Ophthalmologist Magazine Power List 2017.
The Power List is put together by the publication every year to highlight the surgeons and consultants who will be at the forefront of their field and shaping its future over the next 12 months and beyond.
Readers are asked to nominate and vote for those who they feel are the rising stars within the industry, with the top 50 then being published in the annual Power List. This process takes into account ophthalmic consultants from all over the globe, once again proving that Optegra has some of the very best eye surgeons in the world
Alongside his work here at Optegra, Mr Lindfield is also President of the Southern Ophthalmological Society and a Consultant Ophthalmologist and Glaucoma Lead at the Royal Surrey County Hospital in Guildford. Speaking about the Power List, he told us:
“It’s such an honour to make this list. I am both humbled and excited for my achievements and efforts to be recognised by my peers. Being able to offer world class levels of surgery and care for Guildford and Farnham is what I continue to strive for.”
Mr Lindfield’s areas of expertise include glaucoma treatment
, complex cataract surgery
and educational research, and he’s already had more than 25 peer-reviewed articles published in highly regarded journals. It’s not the first time he has gained recognition either: he has received several renowned national and international industry awards, such as the ESCRS Young Ophthalmologist Award, SOS First Prize, UKISCRS Best Video Award and ARVO Young Investigator Award. We are proud and privileged to have him working with us here at Optegra.
One of the peers who nominated him for the Power List said:
“Dan is a caring, personable ophthalmologist with a very approachable style to patient care; a strong believer in patient education and involvement. Since coming to Guildford, he has built a formidable local glaucoma service with excellent treatment and training opportunities.”
Mr Lindfield’s other work includes roles as a glaucoma surgical trainer, hosting registrars and consultants from across the country, and training device manufacturer employees and surgical trainers from across Europe.
Currently, his research interests include the use of eye movement tracking to detect visual field changes in patients whilst they watch TV on a tablet computer. Working with David Crabb at City University, London, he hopes his work will help to develop cheap, readily accessible technology to aid early detection of eye conditions at home.
Mark Hillen, Editor of The Ophthalmologist Magazine, said in a LinkedIn post
about the Power List:
“I view the Power Lists as an opportunity for peers to let other peers know that they respect them and their work. The Power Lists are all about celebrating effort and achievement. I’m very fortunate as Editor of The Ophthalmologist to be able to talk to the big names featured, and when I ask them how they got to where they are, nine times out of 10, they tell me, ‘I was in the right place at the right time’. But let’s not be under any illusions: they’ve worked incredibly hard to get there too. That deserves an immense amount of respect. Kudos to them.”
