Johnson & Johnson Eye Health Meeting. Dubai 27th March, 2013

This meeting was attended by over 100 opticians/optometrists from the United Arab Emirates.  Professor James Wolffsohn (Aston University) provided an overview of recent research into the ocular effects of UV radiation and the challenges and importance of providing adequate eye protection.  He offered practical advice on how to educate patients and improve awareness of UV hazards and offered strategies for optimum protection against these hazards.  Professor Fabrizio Zeri (Roma TRE University) then gave an overview of research that demonstrated how quality of life and self-perception can sometimes be improved by contact lenses (versus spectacle correction) in young adults.  He showed that although adolescents exhibited a strong interest in wearing lenses, a very low proportion did so, indicating that there remain significant barriers to contact lensuse in adolescents.
