YAG Laser - A laser whose active medium is a crystal of Yttrium, Aluminium and Garnet. It is used for cutting tissue. A specialised type using Neodymium (Nd:Yag laser) is used primarily to treat lens Capsulotomy (capsular haze after cataract surgery), Iridotomy (relieve pressure in acute angle-closure glaucoma) and also as a form of treatment in open angle glaucoma (selective laser Trabeculoplasty).
