Zeaxanthin - One of the two retinal pigments found in the central macula area of the eye. It is almost identical to the other macula pigment Lutein. It is a naturally occurring carotenoid that gives corn and saffron its distinctive yellow colour. Low levels of the retinal pigments have been found to increase the risk of developing AMD (age-related macular degeneration). Artificial supplements of Zeaxanthin and Lutein have been recommended to help protect against AMD and cataract development.

Zonules - The suspensory ligaments of the crystalline lens (Zonules of Zinn). These fibrous strands connect the Ciliary body to the lens capsule and through contraction and relaxation of the ciliary muscle, the tension on the capsule is altered and the focusing power of the lens can change (accommodation).
