Fiona McKenna's story 'At last I can see clearly'

16 July 2010

Fiona McKenna talks to That's Life magazine (16 July 2010 issue) about her Implantable Contact Lens treatment for extreme short sightedness, performed at Optegra's Surrey Eye Hospital.

Fiona was treated for extreme short sightedness (myopia) by Mr Robert Morris at our Surrey Eye Hospital. Mr Morris was one of four surgeons hand-chosen and trained by Alcon Inc to use its latest ground breaking lens technology - AcrySof® Cachet Lens" - that was just launching on a global level with selective surgeons.

AcrySof® Cachet Lens" is an implantable contact lens that sits between the cornea and the iris. The lens is an excellent alternative to patients who are not suitable for laser vision correct (due to severe myopia) and are below 45 years.

The lens is designed to improve vision by working with eye's existing natural lens. It sits between the iris and the cornea, allowing the patient's eye to naturally focus and adapt to different distances. The procedure also limits risks associated with other lens implants; there is less chance of developing cataract with this particular lens and it gives almost instant results with little or no recovery time required.

The procedure only takes fifteen minutes and most patients are awake for the treatment, as was Fiona.
