Mr Francis Xavier (Javier) Bardavio Ara is a Consultant Ophthalmologist that provides services at Optegra Eye Hospital Hampshire. His main interest is cataract surgery but also glaucoma and refractive cataract surgery.

Mr Bardavio obtained his medical degree from University of Barcelona, Spain in 1992. His main ophthalmology specialist training was completed in the UK from 1992 until 1999. He became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, in 1998. To that followed a Certificate in Medical Informatics, Master in Clinical Research in 2009, a Master in Healthcare Management in 2012 and an MBA at Oxford Brooks University in 2019.

He moved back to Barcelona in 1999 where he was a consultant cataract and glaucoma surgeon for 16 years, trainee’s tutor from 2005 until 2011, director of the department of ophthalmology from 2008 to 2013 and Clinical Director of Ophthalmic Services at Institut Catala de la Salut in Tarragona from 2013 to 2015. He returned back to the UK where he has practiced as consultant surgeon in the independent sector only, currently at Optegra. He has performed over 22,000 intraocular procedures, mainly cataract surgery.
