To kick of the month, Optegra travelled to the Aston University Conference Centre in Birmingham to host the annual Optegra x ZEISS Symposium, a day dedicated to exploring innovation and advancing the future of eyecare.
A Day of Collaboration and Innovation
From the latest techniques in cataract surgery and updates in age-related macular degeneration (AMD) to pioneering retinal therapies and next-generation glaucoma pathways, the symposium offered a comprehensive overview of developments shaping modern ophthalmology.
Attendees gained valuable insights into how AI and emerging technologies are transforming the sector. The day also featured a range of hands-on workshops, allowing participants to apply their learning directly through sessions in OCT imaging, cataract wet labs, laser vision correction, corneal tomography, and case-based glaucoma discussions.
Expert Insights from Leading Ophthalmic Specialists
We were honoured to welcome a distinguished panel of speakers, including Mr Amir Hamid, Mr Sajjad Mahmood, Ms Nihal Elghryany, Professor Konstantinos Balaskas, and Mr Shafiq Rehman, each of whom brought their unique expertise to the day. Special thanks go to Professor Dominik Fischer, our keynote speaker, whose talk on future treatment options for retinal diseases inspired thoughtful debate and discussion.
Hands-On Learning and Collaboration
In addition to expert talks, attendees benefitted from practical workshops that allowed them to explore cutting-edge techniques up close. Our sincere thanks to those who facilitated these interactive sessions for creating such engaging learning experiences.
A Joint Effort in Advancing Ophthalmic Care
This event would not have been possible without the dedicated efforts of our Eye Sciences team and our valued colleagues at ZEISS Medical Technology. Their collaboration and commitment to education and innovation were instrumental in delivering an exceptional day of learning and professional exchange.
Looking Ahead to the Next Symposium
To everyone who joined us for this year’s event, thank you for your energy, insight, and participation in making the 2025 Symposium such a success. We look forward to welcoming you back next year as we continue to share knowledge, foster collaboration, and push the boundaries of what’s possible in modern eye health care.
