Robert Patient Services Assistant1. What key tasks and responsibilities does your job involve?
I support the Patient Liaison team by organising patient files and ensuring they are in the right place at the right time for the clinic. I look after hospitality of our patients when they come in. I ensure that notes are complete and no information about a patient is missed from their file. I have also taken on the role of IT contact for our site and tend to do most of our IT troubleshooting too wherever I can help.

2. What do you enjoy most about your job?
I originally came to Optegra on an apprenticeship scheme in 2011 and I am still here. I learned a lot through my apprenticeship about procedures and how important it is to keep everything running smoothly. I enjoy seeing patients come out after their surgery and they are happy – it makes it all worthwhile.

3. What do you enjoy about working for Optegra in general?
We run a tight, efficient ship here and things move quickly. We always try to improve our efficiency and make it that extra bit better for patients.

4. How would you describe the working culture at Optegra?
The staff here are very dedicated to our patients and we all work together for them. The communication between the different departments works very well.

5. What, if anything, positively differentiates Optegra as an employer from other places you have worked previously?
We want to be the best eye care company in the UK and the world – that is our goal. To be the best at what we do and not be afraid to spend and invest where we need to in order to ensure that we can provide the best care and treatment for our patients.

6. What has surprised you most about Optegra since you joined?
That we are a company dedicated to eye surgery only.

7. How would you describe your team and colleagues where you work?
Very helpful. I was nervous when I started but we are always looking out for each other and we have a buddy system so we can pair up when someone is away. My colleagues are very knowledgeable – the Patient Liaisons know a lot of detail and are able to share their knowledge with the patients.

8. What are you most proud of about what you do at Optegra?
What we do here is fantastic. Seeing patients come out of surgery and saying they can see again without glasses is incredible. Our consultants – and all the staff here – will look to see if something can be done better or differently and if they see something, they won’t hesitate to try and/or change it for the better.
