I have worn glasses(rarely) and contact lenses (majorly) for 30 years. I considered laser surgery approx.10-15 years ago but was told I would eventually need reading glasses anyway so decided not to bother. On reaching 50, my eyes were getting drier and my contacts less comfy.
One of my friends had lens replacement (£5,000) with another provider and was happy with the results so I went along for a consultation there. The consultation went fine and then they got to the sales pitch. They ridiculously inflated the price and then offered me 'Not a 5% reduction, not a 10%reduction but, if you sign today, we will give you a very special 20% reduction and do them for £5000'. I knew then that they were not for me. I wanted a straightforward, honest, professional organisation that was concerned about the surgery and didn't sound like used car salesmen. My eyes are too precious for that rubbish.
I booked a consultation with Optegra Birmingham. On meeting Mr. Subramanian I got the impression that he is a straightforward, plain speaking, busy man (in the nicest, politest way!). I also got the impression that he was an absolute expert in eyes and I was confident that he would use his expertise to get me the most suitable lenses and the best end result possible.
Optegra charge £7000. I am not wealthy (I knew I would need a loan for this procedure, whoever performed it). It is testament to Mr Subramanian, and the rest of the team that had done the preliminary tests, that I never once considered going for the cheaper option/provider. I wanted the best.
The procedure was booked and was absolutely fine. No pain, no problems, no discomfort. I had a little blurred vision in each eye on the day each was done, but was told to expect it.
I am now six weeks on from my second op. and I feel my life is transformed. To wake up each morning and to be able to see instantly feels like a miracle. I am looking forward to going on my holidays soon without lenses, solutions, glasses, prescription sunglasses etc.
At all of my sessions I have seen a wonderful optometerist (I think that is her title) called Shamsa. She has been checking my sight, has explained everything, answered any questions, and has now informed me that I would pass the sight test to be a fighter pilot!
She is part of a very impressive, helpful, friendly team. Rosey, the patient liason (again, not sure if that is the correct title) is also fab.
I don't usually write reviews but I wanted to inform others in my position that I am delighted with my results, very happy with the whole experience and never once felt worried or unsafe. I know £7000 is a lot of money but it was worth it for the sight I now have, and for the peace of mind I had throughout the process, knowing that my eyes were in the hands of someone I trusted.
Thanks to all the team x
