Biography
I am a graduate of University College London, where I completed my medical degree, together with an intercalated degree in medical microbiology from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.
I undertook my ophthalmic surgical training in London and Oxford, and have completed fellowships in both vitreoretinal eye surgery and medical retina.
During my specialist training I was also able to gain invaluable experience by working for a year in Cape Town, South Africa.
I was appointed as an NHS consultant vitreoretinal surgeon at University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust based at the world-renowned Queen Elizabeth Hospital in 2008.
I also hold an honorary consultancy at the Birmingham and Midland Eye Hospital.
I am responsible for providing the tertiary referral vitreoretinal service at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham.
To date I have performed over 10,000 procedures and take referrals for both elective and complex cataracts and vitreoretinal retinal diseases.
As part of the Vision 2020 project to eradicate preventable blindness, I participate in training surgeons both here and abroad, so they are able to acquire new skills which be used in their home countries.
