Biography

Mr Robert Petrarca MD (Res) FRCOphth MBBS MCOptom BSc (Hons) is a consultant ophthalmologist and ophthalmic surgeon. He currently leads the dynamic Cataract service at the new Optegra Kent cataract clinic. His specialist interests include high volume cataract surgery and glaucoma surgery. He has held a substantive NHS consultant post at Epsom & St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust as the Lead for Cataract Surgery. He also runs a cataract service at Ashtead and North Downs Hospitals in Surrey.

Mr Petrarca is the current Regional Representative for the South West Thames region at the Royal College of Ophthalmologists and the President of the Southern Ophthalmology Society.

Mr Petrarca studied medicine at Guy’s, King’s & St. Thomas’ Medical School, London and went on to complete his ophthalmology training in the London & South Thames region. He was awarded his MD (Res) degree from King’s College London, for his thesis on new treatments in ophthalmology and holds a BSc (Hons) degree in optometry and visual science from City University, London.

He has active research interests in the latest therapies and has been published in multiple peer-reviewed journals and presented at national and international ophthalmology conferences.
