Biography

Mr. Steven George Naylor assumed the role of Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon specialising in cataract and lens surgery. With a primary focus on cataract surgery, he undertakes some of the most complex cases at York Teaching Hospital, his NHS base.

His expertise includes general and emergency ophthalmology, with a particular emphasis on cataract surgery. Mr. Naylor has undergone specialised training to offer advanced lens implants such as toric, multifocal, and extended depth of focal lenses, aimed at enhancing patients’ independence from spectacles post-surgery.

In addition to his work in cataract surgery, Mr. Naylor provides emergency eye care and manages acute, serious eye conditions on a regular basis. Having conducted over 5,000 ophthalmic operations or procedures to date, Mr. Naylor has performed over 3,500 cataract operations in both NHS and private practice settings. He received subspecialty training in corneal, external eye disease, and refractive surgery at St James’ University Teaching Hospital in Leeds, one of Europe’s largest teaching hospitals.

Mr. Naylor holds the prestigious CertLRS qualification (Certificate in Laser and Refractive Surgery, awarded by the Royal College of Ophthalmologists in 2017). He serves on the national advisory panel for the Royal College of Ophthalmology National Ophthalmology Database of UK Cataract Surgery and holds the position of clinical lead for cataract surgery at York Teaching Hospital NHS Trust.

A member of the United Kingdom and Ireland Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons and the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons, Mr. Naylor remains dedicated to advancing the field of ophthalmology and providing exceptional care to his patients.
