LASIK laser eye surgery
LASIK is the most well-known and popular type of laser eye surgery. This treatment can correct vision for people with short-sightedness
, as well as wavefront abnormalities.
Treatment is fast, painless and blade-free, and you can expect improvements in your vision within as little as 24 hours. Before surgery, our ophthalmic surgeons will apply anaesthetic eye drops to ensure you don’t feel a thing. A laser is then used to create a flap in the outer layer of the cornea, which the surgeon gently lifts before reshaping the cornea using an Excimer laser to correct the patient’s vision.
Research shows that 96% of patients achieve the desired improvements in their vision after LASIK, with the majority of patients no longer needing glasses or contact lenses. If you’re looking for LASIK eye surgery
in London, you’ve got two eye hospitals to choose from here at Optegra, including our North London hospital in Colindale and our central London hospital just a stone’s throw from Harley Street.
LASEK laser eye surgery
LASEK is a different method of laser eye surgery which involves the fine surface layer of the cornea being loosened and folded back, rather than a flap being created. An Excimer laser is still used to reshape the cornea to correct the patient’s vision.
Recovery from LASEK surgery can be slower than with LASIK, and your eyes may be uncomfortable for a few days, but nevertheless it makes a good alternative treatment option for anyone unable to have LASIK treatment, for example if you have thinner or flatter corneas.
We offer LASEK surgery
in North London and central London, as well as other locations across the country.
Developing cataracts is very common, particularly amongst older people, but you don’t have to just put up with them. At Optegra, we offer two different treatments for cataracts
, including standard cataract surgery and refractive cataract surgery
Both procedures involve replacing the eye’s natural lens with an artificial lens, but the refractive surgery has the added benefit of using an advanced lens which can correct short-sightedness, long-sightedness and astigmatism. This could mean that you enjoy better eyesight after cataract surgery than you’ve had for years!
As well as providing treatments at our Colindale hospital, we also offer cataract surgery
in London’s Harley Street district, so wherever you are in London it’s easy to find the treatment you need.
Lens replacement surgery
Lens replacement surgery
is usually carried out as a treatment for cataracts, but it can also be used to treat other refractive errors, such as long-sightedness, short-sightedness and presbyopia
. Refractive lens exchange, known here at Optegra as Clarivu
, can be a good option for people over 50 if they are unable to have laser eye surgery.
At Optegra, we offer specialist eyelid surgery
which is available for both medical and cosmetic reasons. From drooping or baggy eyelids to cysts or tumours, we provide surgery for a range of conditions, most of which is carried out under local anaesthetic.
Our North London eye hospital also provides treatments for a wide range of other visual problems, including:
