Birds Eye View for Keen Caravanner

21 November 2023

Keen bird watcher and caravanner Noreen Edwards, 80, from Burton on Trent, is never far from a pair of binoculars, but recently that hobby was at risk due to her poor vision.

“My husband and I love to head off exploring in our caravan and spotting local wildlife wherever we go,” said Noreen.  “But I realised I was struggling with vision – it was hard to read writing on the TV and colours looked faded or dull. I could still drive but started to notice that objects in the distance weren’t as sharp as they once were.”

Noreen was told she had cataract in both eyes at her local optician, who referred her immediately to Optegra Eye Clinic Uttoxeter for NHS cataract treatment.

She said “It was all very quick! I was seen for diagnostic tests on a Friday and offered a cancellation for the procedure the following Tuesday. It meant I didn’t have time to worry about what was going to happen and I was having the operation before I knew it!”

Thrilled with her sharp, colourful vision, Noreen can now spot birds in her garden or the great outdoors with ease. “We have seen goldfinches, dunnocks, woodpeckers and the occasional sparrowhawk, and the definition is amazing. It has improved my life dramatically.

“The staff at Optegra were all fabulous and I was looked after so well. I would highly recommend them to anyone who is currently waiting for NHS cataract surgery.”
