The signs of ageing are commonly seen around the eyes, with the development of excess, loose eyelid skin and/or puffy, “baggy” eyelids. This can lead to a tired, older appearance, and in some cases, a lack of self-confidence. It may also make it difficult to apply make-up, and if advanced can interfere with the field of vision.
Surgery to the upper and/or lower eyelids to remove the unwanted skin and/or fat is called “blepharoplasty”. Blepharoplasty can result in a significant but subtle improvement in appearance, rejuvenating the eye and face to produce a fresher, younger and, most importantly, very natural look. The natural creases of the skin are utilised when removing the excess tissue, thereby leaving no long-term visible scar. Blepharoplasty may be performed under local sedation or general anaesthesia.
At your initial consultation your Consultant Oculoplastic Surgeon will advise you of the results you could achieve as well as the risks which may be associated with this procedure.
