Wearing glasses on your wedding day is something that many of us want to avoid, but what if going without just isn’t an option? If you can’t wear contact lenses, or don’t want the fuss of wearing them for such a long and busy day, then consider treating yourself to laser eye surgery to start off married life. Having laser eye surgery in advance of your wedding day means that you won’t have to worry about the discomfort and inconvenience of wearing glasses or contacts, and you won’t be wearing glasses on those precious wedding photos!
At Optegra, we understand that wedding planning is a busy and expensive time, so we’ve put together all the information you need below to help you arrange your treatment alongside organising your big day.
Why have laser eye surgery for your wedding?
Having laser eye surgery before you get married means that you’ll be able to enjoy your special day more fully, by being in the moment and giving your undivided attention to your loved ones. You won’t be distracted by the discomfort of glasses on your ears and nose, or of contact lenses that have been in for over 12 hours. You also won’t experience the inconvenience that glasses and contacts can involve, including forgetting where you’ve put your glasses, or losing a contact halfway through your first dance! With this newfound freedom, you’ll wonder why you didn’t choose to have laser eye surgery sooner.
Wearing glasses on your wedding day can be frustrating for brides who have spent time, not to mention money, on professional hair and makeup. Wearers of glasses will know all too well how frames can smudge perfectly applied foundation, or mask stunning eye makeup. While some of these inconveniences can be avoided by wearing contact lenses, there is then the risk of eye irritation, which can cause eyes to water and makeup to run. Having laser eye surgery before your wedding day removes these factors altogether, allowing you to look your best and just enjoy your special day. Plus, unlike many aspects of your big day, laser eye surgery is permanent, so you’ll be able to enjoy the results long after the day is over.
When to have laser eye surgery before your wedding
Of course, booking a laser eye surgery appointment the week before your wedding just won’t do. Your eyes will need time to heal before the big day, and you’re bound to be very busy in the weeks and months beforehand too. It is advisable to have your treatment at least two months before your wedding day, to allow time for healing and aftercare appointments and ensure you aren’t too busy in the run-up to the wedding day.
If you are planning on going away for your stag or hen party, you should give some thought to how this will fit in with your laser eye surgery too, particularly if you’re thinking of going abroad. We would advise waiting around 10 days following surgery before taking any trips away, to ensure that you’re close to home if you have any concerns or need further treatment.
It’s a good idea to wait until after your surgery to have a hair and make-up trial – that way, you’ll be able to test out your new look without glasses getting in the way. You should aim to schedule your trial at least a few weeks after your surgery, as you need to avoid makeup and hair products going near your eyes while they heal. It is recommended that you do not wear eye makeup for at least a week after your surgery, but to be on the safe side it would be best to wait two weeks if possible.
The infographic above shows a suggested timetable for fitting in laser eye surgery before your wedding. If you’re in doubt at all about how long to wait before doing activities after your surgery, chat to your surgeon and they’ll be able to advise you.
How to afford laser eye surgery before your wedding
Planning a wedding is undoubtedly an expensive experience, and many brides and grooms put off having laser eye surgery because of the cost. At Optegra, we understand that not everyone can afford to pay for their treatment all in one go, so we offer a range of payment options to spread the cost, some of which require no deposit. By paying monthly over a period of up to 48 months, you can make laser eye surgery an affordable option even during this expensive time.
The larger the deposit you pay, the smaller your monthly payments will be, so it’s worth saving up for the initial deposit. Our laser eye surgery prices include a consultation, your treatment with an expert ophthalmic surgeon, and comprehensive after care, so everything is included and you know exactly what to expect.
Although it might be tempting to opt for cheap laser eye surgery abroad, when you factor in flights, accommodation and additional treatment afterwards, these often turn out to be more expensive, not to mention more risky. Choosing an option closer to home, with expert treatment from world-class surgeons, allows you to have a high quality laser eye surgery experience, giving you exactly the peace of mind you need in the run-up to your wedding day.
