Angie Driscoll, 63, from Hayling Island had been wearing multifocal glasses for 30 years and decided that 2014 was going to be a year for change. An upcoming trip to Australia gave her the impetus she needed to ditch her glasses for good.
Angie, who runs catering company Cottage Cuisine, had astigmatism
in both eyes and was starting to have difficulty reading number plates. She wanted to be able to see distances, drive and read without glasses, as well as be able to continue with her hobbies of sewing, cooking and sailing.
Having seen an Optegra advert, Angie decided to research her options further and attended an open evening
at Optegra Solent Eye Hospital in Whiteley where she heard a presentation from ophthalmic surgeon
, Mr David Anderson. The Hospital Director ran a tour of the theatre and rooms used before and after the procedure and explained exactly what happens on the operation days. This all helped to reassure her that this was the right place.
Angie says, “It turned out that I had cataracts
in both eyes and after an initial assessment with Mr Anderson, he recommended the lenses that would be most suitable for my eyes. I was worried about moving or fidgeting during the procedure but I was reassured that I could be given a mild sedative which was a relief!”
Just 24 hours after having Clarivu™ permanent lens replacement surgery
, Angie noticed dramatic improvements and over time, as her eyes recovered, was able to realise her goals and can now both drive and sew without the need for glasses. She says, “I can now see people walking on the beach at least half a mile from my house!
“All the team at the Optegra Solent Eye Hospital are excellent, very caring and helpful. The place is immaculately clean and is more like a five star hotel than a hospital! If I had realized how easy, quick and simple the procedure was then I would have had it done a long time ago. I now have the sight I had as a child so thank you for the miracle of sight that you have given back to me.”
Angie was so pleased with the results that she has recommended it to two friends, who have gone on to have Clarivu themselves!
