By bus

The closest bus stop to our Newcastle clinic is Lobley Hill Road – Kingsway North. This stop is served by the 69, 90, 94, 96, 97, 832, S833, X71 and X72 lines. First Avenue is also nearby, served by the 92, 937 and 939 routes. Both stops are a 2 minute walk from the clinic front door.

By rail

How to secure NHS referral to Optegra

If you have been diagnosed with a cataract and are keen to have treatment sooner rather than later, Optegra Newcastle will be able to help.

Cataract can develop slowly over time, causing blurred vision, clouding of vision and even double vision for some people. As it happens so gradually, patients often do not realise how badly their eyesight has deteriorated until they have the actual treatment – and then they say they can see in HD!

The procedure is pain-free and the most commonly performed elective surgery in the NHS – it takes only around 20 minutes and is conducted as a day case procedure with no need for any overnight stays.

Refer Your NHS Patients Directly To Optegra

Optegra, in partnership with Primary Eyecare Services on behalf of Northumberland Tyne and Wear LOC, have been working together to streamline the cataract referral process for your patients. Together, a pathway has been developed to introduce a Pre Cataract Assessment service prior to surgery for patients who choose to be seen by Optegra. This will run in parallel to the recently launched service in the area. This will provide an equitable service to all patients who are suitable for Cataract surgery, ensuring patients are fully informed and willing to proceed to surgery. The new services allow the same referral process for all Northumberland, North Tyneside and Newcastle Gateshead patients who require cataract surgery and will be run via the Opera platform using the current Pre Cataract Assessment module.
