Am I suitable for the IMT (Implantable Miniature Telescope) procedure?

The Implantable Miniature Telescope, manufactured by VisionCare Ophthalmic Technologies, is a surgical device designed to improve the vision of those suffering from End-Stage AMD. By enlarging objects to up to three times their normal size, it can help you to regain your independence and improve your quality of life. As part of the CentraSight® treatment programme, the IMT procedure isn’t just a one-off surgery. It’s a four-step process that starts with a diagnosis and ends with an extensive aftercare routine.

To fully evaluate whether you may be eligible to have the IMT fitted, it’s essential that all potential patients first have an in-depth consultation. At Optegra, we provide a free, no-obligation assessment conducted by one of our experienced surgeons, who will determine whether this is the best treatment for you.

During your consultation, our eye health surgeons will evaluate whether you are suitable for the IMT, by assessing if you meet following criteria:

  • You have irreversible, dry or wet end-stage End-Stage Age-Related Macular Degeneration
  • You have exhausted all drug-related treatment for your AMD
  • You haven’t had cataract surgery in the eye the telescope will be implanted
  • You are 55 years of age or older
  • You are willing to receive aftercare treatment

As every patient is different, one of our highly-trained ophthalmic surgeons will make the final decision on whether the implantable miniature telescope is right for you, even if you do meet the above requirements.

If you believe that you would benefit from having the IMT fitted, please don’t hesitate to contact us to arrange a consultation to discuss your individual circumstances in more detail.
