Often used as a treatment for glaucoma, the iStent is a tiny titanium tube which is inserted into the eye to help lower eye pressure. It can also help reduce the need for eye drops – 7 out of 10 patients report not needing them at all following the procedure. The iStent is a popular option of treatment thanks to its compatibility with cataract surgery.
To assess if you are eligible for the iStent implant, you will undergo a full consultation with one of our ophthalmic surgeons. Should you choose to go ahead with the treatment, the same ophthalmic surgeon will also carry out the procedure, as well as guide you through the aftercare checks. We understand how important every individual’s eye health is to them, which is why we are with you every step of the way.
During your consultation, our eye health specialists will follow general guidelines to see if you are suitable for the iStent implant including identifying if:
- You have mild to moderate open-angle glaucoma
- You are currently taking one or more medications to lower your eye pressure
- You are already scheduled for cataract surgery
- You are generally healthy enough to undergo minimally invasive surgery
The iStent treatment is not recommended for advanced glaucoma. If this affects you, our ophthalmic surgeons will talk you through the best alternative options for your eye health needs. At Optegra, we know that everybody is different which is why we assess every patient individually so you can be confident you will be receiving the right treatments options for you.
