Places of study: Brasenose College, Oxford University; St Marys Hospital Medical School, University of London. I trained in Ophthalmology at the Birmingham and Midland Eye Hospital, and later at St Georges Hospital and Moorfields Eye Hospital.

I am now an NHS consultant in Portsmouth. I lecture in Glaucoma Surgery and all other aspects of glaucoma. I have given teaching sessions at national meetings and at a regional level to doctors and optometrists. I have been heavily involved in surgeon training, having been Wessex Training Programme Director for 6 years. I am also involved in developing world blindness prevention, having participated in work in Tanzania and South Africa.

I am a fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists and a member of the European Glaucoma Society, The Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology, the International Society for Geographic and Epidemiological Ophthalmology.

I have published over 40 research papers in my field and am still active in research. I have recently published a landmark study showing the best glaucoma surgery outcomes yet reported with an excellent safety profile.

Personal

I am married with three children. In my free time I enjoy cycling, rowing and trying to keep up with my children!
