Mr Ball is a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon specialising in cataract, refractive and corneal surgery.

After providing ten years of full time NHS corneal and refractive surgery service in Europe’s largest teaching hospital Mr Ball has now moved predominantly into private practice and divides his time between Optegra London and Optegra Yorkshire. He has worked with Optegra since 2010.
Mr Ball qualified in medicine from Cambridge University in 1995 and was awarded the Fawcett Prize in the final MB. He undertook his ophthalmology training in Brighton, Oxford and Yorkshire. Prior to his consultant appointment in 2005 he completed specialist fellowship training in corneal and refractive surgery at the Lions Eye Institute in Western Australia and at Moorfields Eye Hospital, London.
In 2014 Mr Ball was appointed as an honorary consultant at the University Hospital of Geneva (HUG) in order to support the development of their refractive, cataract and corneal service.
He is currently a member of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists committee developing the national standards for refractive surgery (vision correction) practice.
Mr Ball has performed over 5000 laser eye surgery and refractive procedures. He is an expert in all the available techniques of vision correction and was one of the first surgeons in the UK to perform SMILE flapless laser eye surgery.
Mr Ball routinely uses LENSAR™ femtosecond laser technology for cataract and Clarivu (RLE) procedures.
He has published and presented on the subjects of cataract surgery, laser eye surgery and corneal disease. He is currently leading research into treatment modalities for keratoconus and the genetics of corneal dystrophies
