Alex J Shortt

Mr Shortt has joined Optegra as a vision correction consultant in 2016 after completing his initial medical training at the National University of Ireland, followed by a PhD in Ophthalmology at the University College London and 10 years of surgical training at Moorfields Eye Hospital London. Since then, he has become a leading ophthalmic surgeon and became an expert in cataract surgery, lens exchange, LASIK and LASEK surgery.

On top of being a talented surgeon, he is also a highly trained academic researcher having gained his PhD in the topic of STEM cell technology to treat eye disease, and a leading expert on the use of multifocal lens implants in patient’s having refractive lens exchange.

An avid advocate for new technology, he published several of his own works as well as being an editorial board member of multiple professional publications and received several prizes and distinctions such as the Fight for Sight prize and the Moorfields Research Medal.
